This course aims to introduce students to the Hindi language and familiarize them with the fundamental aspects of its grammar for communicative competency and with select topics on contemporary Indian culture. Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to (1) Identify basic vocabulary in context orally and in written form, (2) Explain the nature of origin, expansion, recent developments and the current position of the Hindi Language, (3) Analyse and comment on the grammatical features of words, phrases and clauses of different types, and assess the grammaticality of sentence constructions, (4) Apply appropriate grammar to selected types and contexts of communication in Hindi, (5) Speak on familiar topics and subjects related to own interests by using appropriately complex sentences, and (6) Make informed comments on contemporary Indian culture using keywords in Hindi.
