Introduction to Social Work (SWK 1001) aims to provide students with a clear understanding of the concept of social work as helping human service profession, its’ philosophical and historical development, how its definition has evolved over the years, its strong ethical and value base and principles, encouraging students to explore the complex and often contested nature of its’ diverse knowledge base that informs its intervention application with individuals, groups and communities and policy planning and development areas in the country.
